First Prize in Wildlife Photographer Of The Year

Just ten days after Marsel’s multiple wins in this year’s IPA, he has won yet another award – and it’s a big one: First Prize in the People’s Choice Award category of the Wildlife Photographer Of The Year!

In this new category the public could vote for their personal favorite, choosing from a selection of 50 amazing images. Marsel’s photograph of a Japanese macaque holding an iPhone was an instant hit and went viral the moment it appeared on the internet. It’s a real honor to receive the People’s Choice Award, and we would like to thank the 60,000 people that voted worldwide.

We would also like to congratulate two Squiverati that were successful in this year’s WPY: Indra Swari Wonowidjojo won First Prize in the Underwater Species category with a stunning photograph of whale sharks, and Andrew Lee is a finalist in the Natural Design Category with a vibrant and dynamic lava image. Well done – we’re so proud of you!

Congratulation Marsel, and well done! Your recent awards for the Namibian tree series, coupled with this strangely humanized wildlife shot, goes to show the wide range of scope to which you apply your exceptional skills. We are all inspired – thank you for sharing your talents!

This ma!caque was surely looking up Squiver tours…or figuring out how to call his friends to meet up at the next pond over from where he was!
