Framed

One of the participants on our popular Namibia Untamed workshop is trying to find a good composition. I was on the other side of the natural rock arch and instead of waiting for him to step out of the frame, a natural impulse for most landscape photographers, I decided to include him in the shot to give scale to the image.

I chose a small aperture and partly hid the sun behind the arch to create the sun star, while at the same time getting enough depth of field to get both the closest part of the arch and the background in focus.
